ACORN Home Cleanout Program

ACORN leader Vanessa Gueringer (in green sweatshirt) stands with ACORN Home Clean-out volunteers in front of her Lower Ninth Ward home.

Since December 2005, ACORN has been gutting and cleaning homes in low-income neighborhoods as part of our Home Clean-out Program. With the help of 10,000+ volunteers, and over 400,000 volunteer hours, we have gutted and preserved 3,000+ homes, making ACORN the program with the most homes gutted to date.

We need your help us finish the hundreds of homes on our list! Volunteer!  Donate

As the first large-scale renovation activity in lower income neighborhoods, this initial step of preservation not only has a practical impact – but sends a message that the people of New Orleans are coming home to rebuild. We can't save New Orleans on our own, but we can preserve the homes of many families, and show policymakers that the people of New Orleans will not let our communities be left behind.

We cannot do it without volunteers like yourself!
