17th Anniversary Oakland ACORN

Friday, July 18, 2003

On June 16, 2003, hundreds of Los Angeles ACORN® members and allies rallied to urge California state legislators to include new revenue in the budget for child care, education, and health care.ACORN®, the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, is the nation's largest community organization of low and moderate-income families, with over 120,000 member families organized into 600 neighborhood chapters in 45 cities across the country - including Oakland, California. For more than 30 years ACORN® has taken action and won victories on issues of concern to our community members. We achieve

community-based goals by building community organizations that have the power to win changes - through direct consumer action, negotiations, and partnerships.

On Friday, July 18th, Oakland ACORN® will be holding its 17th Anniversary Banquet to celebrate our ongoing work in the low-income areas of Oakland, California. The work ACORN® has done over the past 17 years would not have been possible without the help of friends and allies working to improve the lives of working families in Oakland. To that end, ACORN® members will be honoring two of our friends and leaders for working families and two of our strong labor allies.
